Acknowledging We are Perfectly Imperfect in 2023

Connection. Embrace. Growth. Resilience. Wonder. Awareness.

These were some of the words we tossed out last year (or was it just a day ago), as my husband and I talked about my One Word anchor for 2023. It’s an activity that I’ve undertaken every December for several years, always with a slightly different twist.

This year, my plan is to have one anchor word, the word through whose lens I will live my life. I say “my plan” with hope and intention — and also the keen awareness of so many lessons learned the past three years. 2020 — the year of disbelief, where life as almost all of us knew it was forever upended. 2021 — a year of redefining what matters, exploring and discovering what it really means to pivot and move in a different direction. And 2022 — a year that had many highs and lows of the world’s wildest roller coaster ride. And that brings us to today — January of 2023.

My chosen word (or did it choose me?) for 2023 will be PROGRESS. I especially like that I can use it as both a noun PROgress and as a verb proGRESS. Each is grounded in the same eight letters; yet one is action being taken while the other is a status, like a snapshot. I really like them both and plan to use them as my anchors.

As humans, I admit that we are all…
